Search bar width at sidebar - overextended vs fill-width?

How the search bar should behave: listing results should grow width-wise or keep it content-fit/aligned with the whole sidebar and just truncate the text/data a little earlier character-count-wise? :) Another one would be a question about overlay bg for that overextended one
